“Decor is a key concept in any event strategy”

Which aspects catch your attention the most when entering the venue you have to decorate?

Having in mind that physical space, light , or height are essential when creating a specific atmosphere, it is necessary to reflect upon what the client wants to communicate: what will be exactly the message, which objectives are to be attained…

Decor is a key concept in any event strategy, but it is also important to know what the venue has to offer. Some spaces are simply amazing. For example, during the last project for Lidl, including a roadshow across different Spanish cities, we set several pop-up restaurants in eye-catching locations: a hangar in the port of Barcelona, a parking lot in Madrid, an old chapel in Valencia, or a warehouse in Seville. Unique spaces transformed into superb gourmet restaurants without losing their original essence.

Besides furniture, what other elements are essential part of events ambiance and decoration?

Lighting, signage, and pure decorative elements are usually relevant, but more and more the natural concepts are more dominant. Flowers and plants, natural fabrics, and pure elements are becoming an increasing crucial part of any décor. In this sense, the event inspired in the Michoacán Night of the Dead featured a venue divided in several areas: stands, floor, air space, tables, etc., with more than 9,000 natural and paper flowers. We designed and manufactured centerpieces for the cocktail area, accompanied by table linen made with flowery, fantasy fabrics typical of this area in Mexico. The rest of the venue was decorated with Mexican arts and crafts, crockery, musical instruments, and furniture. Lighting ambiance was created by means of 356 led candles. Even the staff dressed accordingly.

Sources of inspiration when designing spatial decoration.

Many times inspiration comes from outside our work sphere. At least we try to take inside what it is out there, inspiring ourselves in what a brand or briefing reflects. With these first ideas we may draft a primary brainstorming. It is crucial to give another twist and take into account all that is in fashion at that moment, what it is being showcased in trade fairs and exhibitions, and what are the latest trends.

When dealing low-budget projects, which are the decoration basics in order to achieve your standards?

Lighting plays a major role in tight budgets. Light may dress and create the illusion of different spaces without adding any other decor elements. The use of carpets and fabrics of different textures helps to reinforce this purpose. Applying furniture of different colors and design lines achieves a double function: functionality and ambiance.
